As the glacier has retreated over the past century, it has given rise to Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon where icebergs continually calve from the glacier and drift through the water before eventually reaching the sea via the short river Jökulsá.
I visited Breiðamerkurjökull in a range of weather conditions: beneath overcast skies, in bright sunshine, and during an exceptionally windy day. Each visit revealed a different landscape. The changing light transformed the glacier's subtle blues, greens, whites and greys, while the shifting weather altered both the mood of the ice and the character of the lagoon. These photographs explore how the same place can appear remarkably different as light, colour and atmosphere continually reshape the scene.
